Historic Landscapes, Rural Assets, and Industrial Heritage

Capturing Lancashire’s Past in Digital Detail

Lancashire’s landscape is shaped by centuries of industry, agriculture, and cultural evolution. From canal-side cotton mills and coal-mining remnants to country estates and historic coastal defences, the county presents a rich but often fragile built environment. At Cr8ive Media UK, we apply advanced drone photogrammetry to help document and protect these important assets.

Our work spans towns, villages, farmland, and green belt areas supporting everyone from private landowners managing listed barns to volunteer groups aiming to preserve forgotten local landmarks. By creating highly detailed, navigable 3D models, we help our clients understand the condition of their sites, plan for the future, and build strong cases for funding and repair. These models serve not only as visual records but also as practical tools for restoration planning and long-term stewardship.

Why Drone Surveys Work Well in Lancashire

Lancashire’s geography can pose a challenge for traditional surveying methods. Hilly terrain, overgrown access routes, and sensitive heritage restrictions often make scaffold-based inspections difficult or expensive. Drone surveys offer a flexible, efficient alternative. Our equipment can be deployed quickly and safely on even or uneven ground capturing full site overviews without interrupting normal use or requiring invasive access.

This approach is particularly useful for documenting barns, towers, chimneys, terraces, and other heritage structures scattered across rural and semi-industrial sites. The outputs we deliver include scale-accurate orthophotos, measurement-ready meshes, and browser-based 3D models that are easily shared among stakeholders. These assets are ideal for listed building applications, grant submissions, and repair planning helping to streamline workflows and reduce the burden on overstretched teams.

Survey Snapshot: Disused Public Building

Drone survey in Liverpool of historic building

We recently planned a drone survey of a disused public building ahead of emergency repairs. Our team planned to complete the scan in just one day, to capture a highly detailed 3D model looking for significant structural issues, not limited to failed lead flashing and serious cracks in the external walls.

With the clarity of the visual evidence we can provide, the client can quickly commission temporary works to prevent further deterioration. They can also use our annotated imagery and web-based model to request quotations for remedial work from multiple contractors. Within six weeks, we expect them to initiate the works, all from a survey that cost just £675 and required no scaffolding or intrusive access.
